Introducing Louise Hall
My inspiration is rooted in a long, personal connection to nature and the coastal landscapes of the South Carolina Lowcountry.
When I paint, I compose what I feel when I am immersed in nature… the only place I can slow my mind and feel truly calm and at peace. I see patterns created by the wind in the waters of the oceans and rivers, and in the sands of the beach.
The translation of what I see and the emotions I feel in these moments is the meaning and purpose behind my work.
My process involves repeated layering of color, using a method of brushing color repeatedly in the same direction which forces the pigments to make opaque and textural lines while leaving the body of the shapes I am creating transparent. These layers create movement within the canvas and they give the finished piece varying tonal depth.
Louise is an Atlanta native, but has resided in the South Carolina Lowcountry for over 30 years. She graduated with a BFA in Fine Art from Georgia Southern University with extensive studies in painting, printmaking and sculpture. After college, Louise continued her sculpture studies at the University of Georgia studies abroad program in Cortona, Itlay.
Louise’s background is in graphic design, custom illustration and color theory, which is a large influence in her paintings.
